Create a Mood. Set the Tone...
Picture this: a wedding that perfectly captures your essence, a celebration that leaves guests in awe, and memories you’ll cherish forever! Choosing a wedding theme or style is the first step in creating this magical day. But how do you decide on one? With so many options, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Don’t worry! I’m here to guide you in crafting a wedding that’s as unique as your love story. Let’s dive in!

Why Have a Wedding Theme or Style?
Having a wedding theme is like setting the stage for your love story. It brings cohesion, making your big day feel intentional and memorable. A well-chosen theme helps you make decisions about everything from invitations to decor, ensuring that all elements harmonize beautifully. Guests will appreciate the thought and creativity, and you’ll walk away with a day that feels truly yours.

Reflect on your story
Start by thinking about who you are as a couple. What do you love to do together? Is it a shared passion for travel or a mutual love for movies or books? Where do you feel most at home? Let your interests guide your wedding theme. By choosing something personal, you infuse authenticity and joy into every detail.
Tips: Start with a brainstorming session. Jot down hobbies, interests, or places you’ve visited together. Narrow this list to a few potential themes.
Ask yourself: What feels most “us”?
Example: Sarah and Grant have a shared love of their hometown, Pittsburgh, and Disney. In particular, Sarah’s favorite Disney movie is “Tangled.” This led them to settle on a Pittsburgh themed wedding with Pittsburgh details and Disney style with wedding colors as lilac and gold from the Disney movie, “Tangled.”

Consider the Venue
Your venue can be a fantastic source of inspiration. Look at its architecture, location, and surroundings. Does it lend itself to a particular style?
Tips: Visit your venue and take notes. Let the space guide your choices. Work with your venue’s style—not against it. If you’re getting married in a space with strong architecture or natural features, use them to your advantage. Does it scream “rustic barn” or “modern art gallery?”
Ask yourself: What elements already exist in our venue that we can build on? What vibe does our venue naturally give off?
Example: Sarah and Grant chose The Fez, located in Hopewell, PA for their ceremony and reception venue. The Fez offered ample space and the canvas for Sarah and Grant to bring their vision to life by adding on purple up lighting, lilac napkins, the option to create their own Pittsburgh centerpieces, and the ability to bring in additional Pittsburgh decor.

Embrace the Seasons
The time of year plays a huge role in shaping your wedding theme. Seasonal elements can influence your color palette, floral choices, food, and even attire.
Tips: Embrace the natural beauty of the season rather than fighting it. Let it guide your design choices and add warmth or vibrancy to your theme.
Ask yourself: What colors, textures, or feelings do I associate with our wedding season?
Example: Sarah and Grant got married in April 2025. They could have chosen to do black and yellow to keep in line with the first half of their Pittsburgh theme but the colors lilac and yellow from the Disney movie “Tangled” fit more with their spring wedding.

Focus on the Mood
Mood boards are your best friend—just keep them curated. Pin only what speaks to your heart, not just what’s trending.
Tips: Use platforms like Pinterest or Canva to create a clear vision board. Choose colors and materials that reflect the desired mood. Music and lighting can also play a significant role in setting the ambiance.
Ask yourself: Does this inspiration reflect our authentic style? What atmosphere do you want to create?
Example: Sarah and Grant chose to embrace the soft, romantic side of Tangled with Sarah mimicking Rapunzel’s braid woven with flowers, soft, romantic bouquets in their colors for the wedding party, and lilac dresses for the bridesmaids and lilac ties for the groomsmen.

Bringing Your Wedding Theme to Life
Now that you’ve chosen a theme, it’s time to bring it to life through cohesive details!
- Stationery and signage
- Table settings and linens
- Flowers and lighting
- Fashion and accessories
Tip: Share your theme and mood board with vendors to keep everyone aligned.
Ask yourself: How can each element, from invitations to favors, reflect our chosen theme? Don’t forget to infuse personal touches that make the day uniquely yours.
Example: Sarah and Grant drew inspiration for their style from “Tangled”, the Disney movie. Sarah’s hair style and the florals mimicked the soft, romantic side of Tangled. Lilac and yellow were carried throughout the day, from the wedding party attire to the uplighting and finer details at the reception. There was even a quote from the movie “Coco” at the memorial table. The overall theme for Sarah and Grant’s wedding day was Pittsburgh. They had Pittsburgh themed decor throughout the venue space which included an incline card box, a Pittsburgh skyline, Pittsburgh bridges for the cookie table (all of which can be rented from Clicks-Burgh Retro Rentals) parking chair place card holders and place cards, a personalized Penguin jersey as their guestbook, Pittsburgh landmark centerpieces, and amazingly enough, the Whale of a Cod sign from Eat’n Park. Additionally, during their wedding party photos we had to include Turner’s tea and their Terrible Towel wedding favors!
